The Itsy Bitsy Books

Sparking Real Talks Everyday

Jill-7.jpg

Many of the children I see in my practice struggle to manage big feelings at school and at home. Too often, these emotions are mistaken for “behavior problems” by teachers, administrators, parents, grandparents, and babysitters. The children often get the message that they are “bad”—and the adults feel great pressure to fix things. But these children aren’t bad—they simply need guidance and support to learn how to handle strong emotions.

The Untold Story of Itsy Bitsy’s
Long, Emotional Day

This story follows Itsy Bitsy through a series of stressful moments that build up over the course of a day, until everything spills over and she says the worst thing a child can say to her Mama. Or is it...?

What happens next is key:
Mama responds with calm and compassion, modeling for both children and adults how to understand and navigate overwhelming emotions together.

Mama’s Stressed!
The Untold Story of Itsy Bitsy and Mama

The idea for this sequel came from a real-life incident with my own daughter, when I lost my cool and had what can only be described as a grown-up tantrum.

What happened next was key:

Later, after we’d both calmed down, we talked honestly and directly about what happened, which helped us both feel a sense of repair from our earlier encounter. This story shows children that grown-ups have big feelings, too—and that it’s possible to acknowledge them, talk about them, and heal together.
